Finding Breath

  • Serenity Yoga 15 College Street South Hadley, MA 01075 (map)

TEACHER: Fritha Pengelly
COST: $35 (15% DISCOUNT FOR MEMBERS)

Do you feel that you are unable to take full, deep breaths? Do you wonder how your posture might be affecting your ability to breathe? Or maybe you know your posture is affecting the way you breathe!

In this workshop we will explore the movement of the breath in relationship to movement of the whole body in order to find expansiveness in the chest and ribs and length through the spine. Through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons discover the habitual movements that are getting in the way of full, deep, and easy breathing, and take away with you easy-to-do movement explorations to help you find this ease on your own. Workshop will include exploration of two Feldenkrais® ATM lessons and will include time for discussion and questions. No experience necessary - all are welcome!

The practice of Feldenkrais® can provide the possibility of learning about our habits and discovering new possibilities of action and living. Within a safe learning environment, you can explore the connections between emotional habits and movement habits and how these patterns create tension, lack of ease, discomfort, and limitation. Moshé Feldenkrais famously said: “We act in accordance with our self-image.” In other words, our movement habits are directly tied to how we see ourselves and how we feel in the world.
